About Juanita Pol Kinil

Juanita Pol Kinil is a traditional Mayan healer, midwife, nurse, and activist from the community of Uspibil, Yucatán, Mexico. Descending from generations of midwives and healers, she leads El Despertar de las Mujeres que Sanan (The Awakening of the Women Who Heal). This organization defends women’s rights and preserves ancestral knowledge.

Featured in SIMA Academy’s acclaimed documentary Juanita, she shares her story of resilience and transformation—turning years of domestic violence into a journey of healing and empowerment. Her life’s work honors the wisdom of Mayan women who continue to heal their communities through presence, tradition, and love.
